But the question isn't whether manufacturers have specs—it's whether they can prove their products consistently meet them. Per FTC advertising guidelines (ftc.gov), claims about product performance must be substantiated with evidence. Per ISO 13485, quality management isn't an inspection at the end of a line; it's a documented system that runs through design, production, handling, and delivery. That's the standard we hold ourselves to at Sunrise Medical, and it's the standard you should demand from any medical device supplier.
The next time someone hands you a spec sheet and says "it's within industry standard," ask them how they know. Ask for the verification protocol. Ask whether the numbers are averages or worst-case values. And if you can't get a straight answer, that's your answer.
